Boiler Room returns to Manila

Since its inception in 2010 in London, Boiler Room has become one of the largest and most popular online music broadcasting services in the world. The platform's original aim was to provide a space for emerging and underground electronic music artists. Boiler Room quickly gained a following for its live broadcasts of DJ sets and live performances in unconventional spaces like warehouses, rooftops, and living rooms. With events hosted in over 200 cities worldwide and featuring some of the most exciting names in music, such as Fred Again, Pink Pantherness, and Kaytranada, Boiler Room returns to Manila for the second time.

Boiler Room previously hosted an event in Manila in 2017 through a partnership with Black Market. Artists like Eyedress and Jess Connelly performed, creating a night that still resonates with many people. Following this event, Boiler Room's half Filipina Producer and Director, Angela Stephanson, directed a documentary titled To Live and Die in Manila, which provided a lens on the Philippines' war on drugs through multiple artists.

Manila Community Radio (MCR) is a new platform founded in 2020 by a collective of DJs, artists, and music enthusiasts in Manila. MCR was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting closure of many physical venues for music and art. The platform provides a space for local artists and creatives to share their work and connect with audiences in the Philippines and around the world. In 2022, MCR received Boiler Room's Broadcast Lab grant, which supports the development of innovative radio and broadcasting projects. The partnership between Boiler Room and MCR is a testament to the growing influence of the local music scene in Manila and the importance of community-driven initiatives in the music industry.

On April 29th, 2023, artists DJ LOVE, LIBYA MONTES, TEYA LOGOS, SHOWTIME OFFICIAL CLUB, PIKUNIN, OBESE.DOGMA777, T33G33, and HIDEKI ITO will play at an undisclosed location. Tickets are free, but guests must sign up and hope to be informed through email that they are on the guest list. If lucky enough to make the list, guests can expect a sonically immersive experience.

The upcoming event promises to be a night of high-energy music, featuring some of the most exciting emerging artists from around the world. Boiler Room has a reputation for providing an authentic and unique experience that is different from anything else out there. The event is expected to be another incredible showcase of talent in line with Manila Community Radio, which provides a space for local artists, creatives, and musicians to showcase their work.

The partnership between Boiler Room and Manila Community Radio is an exciting development for the music scene in Manila. It is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent on a global stage and for international audiences to experience the vibrant music scene in the Philippines. The collaboration between Boiler Room and Manila Community Radio is sure to be a perfect match, as both entities share a commitment to celebrating and amplifying underground music scenes.

In conclusion, the upcoming Boiler Room and Manila Community Radio event is set to be an unforgettable night of music, featuring some of the most exciting emerging talents from around the world. With an undisclosed location, a set time from 8pm to 1:30am, a diverse lineup of artists, and the backing of two of the most innovative music platforms out there, this event is not to be missed.
